It was mentioned or hinted by Rob that it may be possible to use this software on the iphone/ipod touch. What would really kick this software off is if it can be used on the new Apple Ipad, because of the larger screen. What do you think?

Richard, we do have plans to create a PIRform app for the iPhone and the new iPad. Currently though, we are concentrating our efforts on getting the product finished and on sale! I personally am a Mac fanatic, so I'm just as keen to see this as you.
All I can say is that we'll keep you posted.

Richard, it will be more likely months than weeks I'm afraid :(

Apple have recently announced their next iPhone/iPad operating system, OS 4.0. In this new version they are putting a very tight rein on how apps can be produced for both the the phone and pad.

Although we were thinking of making a version of PIRform for the iPhone and iPad, this new stance from Apple may change that completely. It will at the least put our plans back significantly and may also mean that we abandon this altogether.

It's too early to say for certain where we will go and we want to look at what happens in the first six months of OS 4.0 to be sure we're on safe ground.

I feel disappointed Sean that you want to take the wait and see what happens route.Always a safe bet in business not to risk any loss in time and money. But as the S.A.S moto say's Who Dares Wins and the rewards for a application on Iphone, Ipad have potential for great profit!!!

We're not happy with this either Richard! However, due to Apple's changes to their licence agreement, even we had a version out there today we would have to prevent it from working on the new OS. From our point of view, locking our users into older iPhone/iPad versions is not acceptable. We therefore need to wait to see whether Apple take a more reasonable stance with their licence before we go any further. I'm sorry that I can't say any better at this stage.

Any application for the iPad certainly won't be this year, due to the restrictions put in place by Apple on the type of software that developers are forced to create programs on, we may never see an app for the iPad. This is purely down to Apple, because believe me, we would be doing it if we could. We are however planning to have a similar platform on Windows based slates and tablets.
This isn't a cop out by any means Richard, but an unfortunate statement of fact. If the situation changes then I will be as happy as you to see an App on the beautiful iPad.

How about using the Symbian or Android os? Apple haven't cornered the market yet!
HTC are producing some very capable handsets now, better, in my humble opinion, than the Iphone.

Karen, we definitely have plans to produce PIRform for the slates, tablets and smart phones that will be PC based. We are very excited about this but as usual, there aren't enough hours in the day! After we release PIRform Lite, we will be releasing a visible roadmap, which will outline what our plans are, and what to prioritise. In keeping with our current customer service, this roadmap will always be available for comment, criticism and suggestion.
Sean will be very happy he has someone fighting the PC corner!

Hi Rob,after reading that you have plans to use PC based kit on tablets/smartphones and then reading that you will tell your customers of your plans for the future of P.I.R Form. My question is have you given up on Apple Ipad, is it a mountain too high to climb, and do you know for a fact , that you have not got the right men or equipment to reach the summit of your ideas. I believe the Ipad will be on the market a long time and it will develop into a better product. The Ipod,Ipod Nano and the Iphone are all examples of what the customer wants, and that is the key to making money.Tell Sean he is right you can put PC in just about any processor these days, but if you put your software into a market leading machine it would stand out from the crowd of applications of electrical software which is currently out there! Regards Richard

Karen: initially we will be looking at both Android and Windows. After that I'm not sure. Symbian is not really on our radar at the moment. There is going to be a number of new slate devices (that is, like the iPad) using Android out soon, and Windows is expected to follow when the Windows Phone 7 operating system is launched later this year. After we take a look at these, then we will think about other devices.

Richard: I can't say that we've 100% given up on the Apple platform and, no, it's not too high a mountain either! It's just that Apple's changes to their licensing is becoming extremely restrictive and, given that there will soon be many devices out that compare very favourably to the iPad, it is not a clear choice for us at the present. Should Apple change its licence conditions then that will change. I am also aware that Apple users tend to be passionate about their choice of device, and we certainly will listen to the weight of feedback from our registered users in this matter.
